Some big news this week as our own club member John Shaw has been selected to Canada’s U-20 representative side. Today he is meant to start at hooker for the Age Grade side. At 1530 he plays Romania U-19
He is playing in the U-20 March international series against other Tier 2 countries in U-20 Rugby. Playing Romania twice and the USA twice with the USA games counting as the qualifier for the Junior World Trophy.
Rugby Canada Preview for Today’s game and the link to the paid stream can be found HERE. Feel free to Tweet @RugbyCanada and voice your disappointment in our development squads being behind a pay-wall.
Canada “A” (Best Available Players) started their World Rugby Pacific Challenge with a boom as they beat a “Junior Japan” (unknown age group or selection process) with a resounding scoreline of 69-17.
Running in 10 tries and with Ontario Beauty Liam Underwood and Scottish Born Gordon McRorie kicking the conversions. Notable former bleach blonde winger Phil Mackenzie scoring a hat-trick. Although the stream was of dicey quality hopefully the bar is raised for the next match.
Rugby Canada’s Write up can be found HERE.
Canada “A” play Samoa “A” on March 13 at 9pm EST/6pm PST in Canada. That’s this Friday!! Rugby Canada’s Twitter should have a link to the stream, but if you’re having trouble finding it don’t hesitate to contact Blues Member Ryan Surgenor for some help.
In Club Administration news a few notes for you:
- Registration is almost available, we are just working out some minor kinks in the online process.
- Our President David Best have been elected to be president of the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union, as such he has resigned as our beloved president and have moved to the position of EORU Liaison on the board. Until our next AGM the Club Man of the year, Jim Shaw, will take over as interim President.
- Schedule for the 2015 Season is still not finalized from the FRQ. I have no timeline for this release so stay tuned for any changes.
Seems that’s about it for this week. As per usual if you have any questions or want to provide additional information feel free to email us at info@bytownbluesrugby.ca
Enjoy the weather and see you on Saturday!
Comms Team out.
