Three Bytown Blues Named Ontario University All Stars

Posted on:

The Ontario University Athletics rugby awards were announced recently and the Bytown Blues were well represented with three of our first team players named as OUA all stars.

Brendan McGovern, Graham Turner and Dave Worsley, who all attend Queens, were major contributors to the Blues successful season in the FRQ this year. Queens finished this season with a 40-10 victory over Western in the OUA finals as they successfully defended their 2012 title.

Queens coach Peter Huigenbos had plenty of praise for the three members of the squad.

Brendan, a fifth year Environmental Science major from Ottawa, is “a flashy offensive threat who is calm and composed under pressure. He possesses a high amount of skill in passing, kicking, and ball running. He is someone who leads by example both on and off the field.”

Graham Turner, a 4th year History major, joined the Blues this past season and is “a tremendous all round player with great speed offensively and has an uncanny ability around the breakdowns and the tackle to cause turnovers. Graham has a high rugby IQ and is a great leader on the field.”

Also joining the Blues this past season was Dave Worsley, a 4th year Life Sciences major, who is “a big physical back who is a hard ball runner with a good boot. He is consistent under the high ball and has great positioning in the back three. Worsley is a strong communicator, an intense competitor and an ideal teammate.”

Congratulations to all three for another successful season.
