On a hot and humid Saturday, all three Bytown Blues senior sides took to the road this weekend. The Blues 3rds drove down to Brockville to face off against the Privateers in Eastern Ontario Rugby action, while the Blues 1sts and 2nds faced off against the a Ormstown Saracens in the Chateauguay Valley of Quebec.

The Blues 3rd XV fell to a very solid Brockville squad. The lads made many many tackles against the very large Brockville pack and played hard to the end. Numerous good performances on the day but noticeable efforts by Luc “Gibby” Gibson, Zac Wagman and Cody Laurin With some some great kicking by Simon Nolan.

The Blues 2nds started off slowly against the Saracens, falling behind 3 – nil after a 40m penalty by Ormstown. The rest of the game was decidedly in the Blues favour. Thanks to unselfish play throughout the squad, the 2nds scored the following 73 points against an Ormstown squad that ended up being short men in the second half. On a day with many notable performances, second row Ian Bingeman was named man of the match thanks to scoring three tries on the day after providing strong support throughout the match.

The Blues 1sts continued where the 2nd XV left off in the late match. Unselfish play by the squad led to some early points with a Sean Harrison try beneath the posts. With the opening points on the board, strong game management by Brendan McGovern allowed the Blues to continue finding available gaps in the Ormstown defense and spread the ball around. As the Blues 2nds had done in the first game, the 1st XV were able to play strong defense throughout the match. Ormstown managed to score their only points late in the first half, thanks to a penalty from in front of the posts.
