Ottawa’s Bytown Blues continued its rise through the ranks with four convincing victories over the Irish this past weekend.

The Blues 2nd XV experienced some questionable decisions by the ref but kept cool and remained respectful of the referee even as he put the side down to eleven players against the irish. The Blues were unrelenting in their tackles and rucks and held firm against the Irish – even scoring three tries while shorthanded. Final score 25 – 12 Blues over Irish 2s.

The Bytown Blues 1st XV took to the field against the Irish 1s and promptly made several large tackles that staggered the Irish. The Blues executed their game plan well against the Irish ( whose coach had earlier attempted to join the Blues facebook group for some unknown purpose) and were unlucky to be on the short end of the score near half.

In the second half, the Blues attacked the Irish backs and ran through their centers time and time again.

Final score Bytown Blues 1st XV 31-22 over Irish 1s.

Sunday’s junior matches featured the Blues u16s running off with a 22-5 victory over the Irish. The Bytown Blues Rugby Club’s U16s finished their season 7-0 and will now represent Eastern Ontario at next weeks Ontario Rugby Union U16 Championships.

The Blues U18 defeated a solid Irish u18 group 12-5 in a game that featured many great runs and much hard rucking. A spectacular tackle by James Crocker Fitzpatrick at the Blues 5 yard line prevented a sure game winning try by the Irish winger.

Rivez Jinkihadze, a member of the EORU and Lowe Canada Voyageur squads continued his exceptional play on the season and rumbled through and over the Irish backs as he scored the decisive try.

With the victory, the Bytown Blues Rugby Club U18s finished the season undefeated for the second consecutive year.
