2024 President Message 2024 President
When I first starting playing for the Blues in 1979, I had just finished grade 11, playing rugby at Ridgemont High School. We did not have a junior program, I played 3rds. At practice and at games I introduced myself as Boggy's little brother. My first game at Twin Elm, I stepped into the Blues change room, a wee bit timid and shy. If you can believe it I was actually quiet.
As I walked into the room, John Russell, probably in his 50s, is lying stretched out, ala Burt Reynolds, a wry smile, a cigarette in one hand, his knee bandaged up for support and the alluring aroma of A535 wafting through the room. After the game, I walk back in and the only difference for John was a bit more dirt on him, a wobbly pop in his hand and a wry smile for a job well done!
Welcome to the Blues!
2023 season
Blues Minor and Junior Rugby
We are looking forward to a fun and full summer of rugby, our minor program is growing year over year bringing more kids into this great game. We will be fielding almost a full slate of junior teams, with our U14 girls combining with multiple clubs to grow that age grade. We should be fielding two U18 boys sides this year. The other EORU clubs are also growing allowing for more games, but we will be travelling and hosting teams from other towns, and some touring sides for 2023, still a work in progress.
Blues Junior Boys Rugby
Our Junior boys program is returning to its former strength in numbers, fielding 2 U18 boys side this year, a full U16 boys and hopefully U14 boys teams to play local teams. Many games have been added to the 2023 season, so lots of fun action this summer.
Blues Junior & Senior Girls Rugby
We are looking forwad to a full slate of U16 & U18 girls games as we should be able to field a full Blues team at both age grades. We are still growing U14 girls so they will combine with other teams for games, but train with the U16s. Our U18 numbers are strong and will train with our senior women's players for practices, with some great opportunity for them to play in division 2 EORU. Come out and learn this great game with people that just want to play, get better and have fun.
Blues Senior Men's Rugby
All EORU are playing in EORU this season, we will be fielding 2 men's teams in divsion 1 and 2. Look forward to getting some fun and competetive games this summer. And don't forget about the McCormick CUp coming back this fall.
Blues Classics (aka Old Boys, over 35s)
Still in the planning stages; I believe the best scenario for the future, at the moment, is to arrange two friendlies and participate in the Fall brawl.
Excited for 2023, Advance!
