Current On-field Plans for the 2021 year

Posted on:

We’ve got some important information to share about the current on-field plans for the 2021 year.

COVID-19 Sanctioning

Rugby Ontario officially started the sanctioning process last week with a president’s briefing last week and Club COVID-19 Administrators training session this week. For 2021, we have to re-submit updated documents and information to Rugby Ontario for sanctioning, to open up our program.

We have finished the first cut of the documents and submitted them to RO this week. We are now in the process of setting up the registration categories, in Sportlomo. We are hoping to have the online registration setup in the next couple of weeks. Please be patient as RO has reduced their staff to 3-4 people, so they only have 2 employees to handle 50-60 clubs sanctioning requests, among other duties. Once we are ready to go live we will send an update, stay tuned.

2021 Season

As we are still in the red zone, and effectively Phase 1 of RO return to play (see attached link/image), the only training allowed is no shared ball, no flag rugby or shared equipment. Training is limited to 10 indoors and 25 outdoors. We are planning to start up mid-May, when we SHOULD be further along in the RTP phases (at least Phase 2, and possibly 3).

For this spring/summer we will be running a full slate of programs (YES the Blues minis return)… We are working on the field reservations and will update the website when confirmed.

U6, U8, U10 and U12 Minor (co-ed non-contact)

  • Wednesday nights (with possibility of Monday for U10/12)
  • We are also looking to start up a U12 girls only sessions, if numbers warrant
  • Junior players, great opportunity to get your volunteer hours in… help run drills and games for minors
  • Parent volunteers for covid duties are needed as well

U14, U16 & U18 Boys

  • non-contact until we get to Phase 4/5

U14, U16 & U18 Girls

  • non-contact until we get to Phase 4/5

Senior Men

  • non-contact until we get to Phase 4/5

Call for volunteers & COVID assistants
For those who helped the club out last fall as covid assistants (cleaning balls, flags, tacking attendance, attestation forms) we thank you very much. We will be needing more people again this year until the covid restrictions are lifted. If you are available to help out in any way here is what we need you to do:

  1. Take the 2021 World Rugby COVID ADMIN course (online course, approximately 20 minutes). If you did the online course last year, you still have to take the course.
  2. Once completed, download and email the certificate PDF, with your full name and email address (for records at RO) to:
Derek Seeley – health.safety@bytownbluesrugby.ca AND cc Jim Shaw – president@bytownbluesrugby.ca.

You will also have to retake the covid course online for 2021.
