Bytown Blues Update for January 14th

Hope Everyone had a happy and safe holiday season! Now that the New year in in full swing time for the Bytown Blues Update.

With winter now in full swing this means that Dome training has started for the Bytown Blues. The information for these sessions and the CSAD session this week are as follows:


  • Time: Saturday 18:00-20:00
  • Location: Lees Campus Dome “200 Lees Avenue¬†Ottawa Ont. K1S 5S9”

Senior Men:

  • Time: Saturday 18:00-19:00
  • Location: Lees Dome.

Club: CSAD Training

  • Time: Monday 18:00-19:00
  • CSAD Gym:¬†Unit 1, 1665 Russell Rd, “Ottawa, Ontario, K1G 4B8”

In club news: two members of the Blues got some good new this week as one player got selected for the Canada Maple Leaf 7s team and a long time volunteer and dedicated member got selected for an award from the city.

Brendan McGovern, who plays 10 for our first team, was selected to travel to Argentina, last weekend, and to Chile on the 17th-18th for a total of two Tournaments representing Canada’s Development 7s side. This is a huge accomplishment for any rugby player in Canada and the Bytown Blues extend the biggest of congratulations to Brendan and wish him the best of luck in these Tournaments. ¬†The write up for the team as per Rugby Canada can be found here

Lee Powell is a long time member of the Bytown Blues and a supporter of rugby even before the Blues came into existence. Lee is a high level coach and referee and has played a large part in the success of the Blues Junior program and the growth of rugby in Ottawa.¬†Lee Powell will receive the¬†the “Mayor’s Cup for Outstanding Contribution to Sport in Ottawa in recognition of his total commitment to rugby and its success locally.” Lee will receive the award at the¬†Jan. 28 Ottawa Sports Awards. Finally the Kit for the Kukri order has come in so Ryan Surgenor will be bringing them to the Dome sessions on Saturday the 17th and the CSAD training on Monday the 19th. If you have any questions about ordering Kit in the future fell free to contact
