Weekend Wrap-Up for June 22nd

Posted on:

A full schedule of games on a rainy Saturday out at Twin Elm ended with both the Blues 2nds and 1sts on the front pitch against the Ottawa Irish.

The day started with the Blues 3rds taking on the Wolves on the back pitch. The Blues 3rds featured a nice mix of seasoned veterans and youth on the day and took the lead early thanks to strong running in the backs. The Wolves never really had a chance to catch up as the floodgates opened early and Blues tries started pouring in. The final score was 80 to 7 for the 3rds.

Out on the front pitch, the Blues 2nds fell behind against the Irish 2nds but fought back for a close win by a score of 20-19. Making the comeback all that more impressive was that they played with 14 men for large parts of the day, as they were shown two yellow cards and a red card by the referee for infractions. The 2nds improve to 3-1 for the season and end the Irish 2nds hopes for an undefeated season.

The Blues 1sts also fell behind to the Irish but were not able to complete the comeback as the 2nds had done earlier. The Blues fought hard and played cohesively in the final 20 minutes, but the deficit was too much to make up. Final score was 24 to 15 for the Irish.

This was the first loss for the Blues 1sts this season and puts them a game behind the Irish in the standings. It should go without saying that the rematch on August 17th will be another fiercely contested match.
